Zoom Lense

However, it is a 60x zoom lens (although most pictures I have seen were far away from a 60 magnification), and the pictures taken by this lens must be taken from a short distance. They wouldn't look like what Holmes is showing to the detectives:

Rice
In a later scene Holmes describes how rice is a natural desiccant (water absorbent) and can be used to revive phones that have gotten wet. This is true. There are better desiccants, like the silica gel packets that come with new hardware, but rice works too.
Even if it is not possible to get the phone working again (not unlikely after a washing machine) it would most likely be feasible to extract the data through forensic means: the chip that holds the data can easily be identified and transplanted into a working phone.
